WHEN REASONS COLLAPSE
www.facebook.com/WhenReasonsCollapse
There are two slightly unusual things about metalcore/melo-death outfit When Reasons Collapse. Firstly, they come from France which, Gojira aside, doesn't really have a big track record for breaking bands out into other territories and, secondly, they have a female vocalist. 'Full Of Lies' was originally released about two years ago but the band have decided to really make a push to get more recognised in the UK, hence this reboot, with a debut album being readied for a 2014 release. When Reasons Collapse (can someone explain to me why a majority of these bands have to have three word band names because they annoy me) certainly don't hang around on this EP. With an intro and six tracks clocking in at just over nineteen minutes, it's over almost before it has begun. Other than the quite refined intro 'Another Beginning' they are brutally heavy, especially in the drum department. It's almost as if their drummer, Guillaume, has had a rocket covered in hot chili sauce stuffed up his proverbials such is the ferocity with which they are hit! If you like bands such as Heaven Shall Burn and All Shall Perish (see what I mean about the band names) then you might find something to enjoy here.

Unfortunately, When Reasons Collapse do not use their female vocalist or the fact that they come from France to their advantage. Cristina can certainly scream but she sounds like 90% of male metalcore vocalists and where, perhaps, some Parisienne musical influences could be used to distinguish themselves they have just ended up sounding generic. Absolutely nothing here makes them stand out in what has become a very overcrowded genre. Metalcore is far from my favourite style, blastbeats do nothing for me if used constantly and all of the songs here seem to merge into a “we are very pissed off” statement, but When Reasons Collapse can obviously play their instruments well. They are also yet another band let down by a woefully over the top press release (please just give me some facts and not a fantasy story). If their debut album can introduce some individuality into their repertoire then their name might well get some coverage, but if they carry on in a similar vein to this EP then they'll quickly get lost in the mire.
