REVOLUTION MOTHER
This CD demands that I groove. But, conversely, it also makes me want to cut my ears off. You see, I shouldn't like this; it's hairy-ape music of the variety that has somehow, and inexplicably, made Zakk Wilde a deity of sorts. There's a kind of QOTSA thing going on too, with some very faint traces of hardcore (80's NYHC style). The thing that really lets it down though is the contrived lyrics and vocal delivery. Had these both been slightly less terrible, I might be willing to give this some kudos. As it is, it serves to sink the experience of listening to this further into hateful territory. Musically speaking I like the chugginess of the guitars/bass with the heavy use of toms and double bass. It really does make you want to shake your booty. And, in a club setting, you'd be hard pressed to stand still. But I'm here listening through headphones, and the effect is one of boredom. Go see them live, because the songs will stand up to it, but buy the album with some caution.
