DESASTER

WOW - it’s like Venom, Sodom and Destruction crashed Bulldozer’s party with Impaled Nazarene and Watain firing on all cylinders. I like this! Black metal played the old school way by this German band comes alive in the third millennium - just look at the song titles if you need more proof! The simple review is they're hard, heavy and write damn fine, catchy, thrashy, blackened metal songs. Mind you, they’ve been around for a while and will certainly know what the 80s original black/ death wave was like as the band was formed in Germany in 1988 and have a myriad of different releases behind them - prolifically releasing from the mid 90s onwards. Manic, commanding, and classic lead work helps to give this album a touch of old school class with modern production values making sure each note screams at you from the speakers. There’s a great guest vocal appearance from Primordial’s Alan ‘Nemtheanga’ Averill on 'Tyrannizer'. It’s always good to hear his vocals pop up on any release - the only thing is just as they are there, they are gone again never to return. A small quibble, I know, on what is a mighty fine release. I’ve listened to this CD a few times now and as well as being an immediate attention grabbing album there is more than enough to keep me coming back for more and I would say I’m liking it more and more with each listen. Desaster have a stereotypical look - all bullet belts, studs and leather, sound - blackened no-nonsense thrash… BUT they do it so well!!!
