7 DAY WEEKEND
www.facebook.com/7dayweekenduk
Warrington based 7 Day Weekend comprise vocalist Calan Nickle, Tom Hancox and Clayton Leah on guitars (Hancox also handles vocals), Dan Hancox on bass and drummer John Handy. The band are forging a name for themselves on the live circuit, including a support slot to Feeder. This re-issued EP is presumably released to build on the momentum created by their exploits on the road. The first 3 tracks on the EP, ‘Ghosts Of Me, ‘Mistakes’ and ‘Kingdoms’, are all pretty much out of the same mould with plenty of up tempo, frenetic energy evident, together with very capable musicianship and infectious melodies. The fourth track, ‘Hide’, is different in as much that the tempo is slower and more laid back, with the song seeming to have more ‘room’ in which to develop. The fifth and final track ‘proper’ is ‘Seasons Like These’ and it is very much of the same formula as the three opening tracks. Three of the aforementioned tracks - ‘Hide’, ‘Ghosts Of Me’ and ‘Seasons Like These’ - are reprised as acoustic versions but seem to be little more than demos. Overall, this is a competent release, although there seem to be quite a few bands plying this style of rock at the moment and, as such, it is something of a crowded market. It remains to be seen if 7 Day Weekend can develop to the extent whereby they can stand out from the competition.
